Paying off Fuel Debt

Ways of Paying Off Fuel Debt

Regular Payment Plan

An agreement is reached between the fuel supplier and the customer as to how much the customer will pay and at what stages over a defined period of time.

Lump Sum

Some customers may not have the financial resources when their fuel bill arrives but are confident that this situation will not persist [e.g. maybe the person's wages have been delayed]. Once this income has arrived the customer pays off the debt in total.

Installation of a Prepayment Meter

Many fuel suppliers are keen to install a prepayment meter if the customer falls into debt. The meter can be adjusted to reclaim the debt until it is cleared.

Fuel Direct

This solution is only available to those who receive social security benefits through the DSS. An amount [up to a set maximum] is deducted from the person's benefits and transferred to the fuel supplier until the debt is cleared.
