Library Services

West Lothian has 14 community libraries (new window) and a shared Reference library at West Lothian College, providing a variety of services with something for everyone. We also have two mobile libraries which will visit any area more than a mile from one of our local library buildings.

Ask Scotland is an online reference service which brings together librarians from all over Scotland to provide expertise to answer your reference queries. Click on the Ask Scotland (new window) link to ask your question and you will receive a reply by email within 48 hours.

Young Writer of the Year Awards 2009

Quest Seekers Summer Reading Challenge

Children can take part in an adventure and let their imaginations run free this summer.  The Summer Reading Challenge blasts off in libraries across West Lothian during the summer holidays.  Children can help the three Quest Seekers, Raj, Belle and Louis to complete a three-staged challenge to find the golden book.

The adventure starts when the Quest Seekers meet Cadmus the gatekeeper, who gives them their Quest - to bring back a golden book.  By collecting stickers to complete the pictures on the poster, children taking part can find the golden book and help complete the challenge!  Children read 6 books over 6 weeks, gain prizes as they go along, take home puzzles and colour-ins and join in the planned activties and fun games being held in libraries.   

It's easy to join - sign up at your local library from 20th June.  Places may be limited so please register early!
